MTV EUROPE 🇪🇺 TOP 20 – September 1994 🔥

From reggae to eurodance, from heartfelt ballads to alt-rock anthems, the September 1994 edition of MTV Europe’s Top 20 captures a dazzling moment in ’90s pop culture. We kick things off at #20 with Jamaican band Inner Circle, whose version of “Games People Play” brought social commentary with a reggae twist, conquering charts across Europe 🌍. One spot above, Jam & Spoon return with “Find Me (Odyssey to Anyoona)”, a lush trance anthem featuring the mystical vocals of Plavka, which became a number-one hit in Finland. At #18, Crash Test Dummies prove their staying power with the surreal and unforgettable “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm”, holding strong after five months in the chart.

Sliding in at #17 is a futuristic new entry: “Welcome to Tomorrow (Are You Ready?)” by Snap! featuring Summer. This track, with its sci-fi themed video made in Softimage 3D, propelled Snap! into a new era of eurodance 🚀. At #16, British reggae legends Aswad continue to shine—literally—with “Shine”, their biggest hit since the ’80s, nominated at the International Dance Awards. Whigfield dances in at #15 with her iconic “Saturday Night”, a track that had already taken Spain and Italy by storm before becoming a European smash. Meanwhile, Soundgarden debuts at #14 with the haunting “Black Hole Sun”, a grunge classic that topped charts in Iceland and dominated U.S. rock radio. 🌑☀️

At #13, get ready for a wild ride—Rednex‘s “Cotton Eye Joe” storms the chart with banjos, fiddles and pounding beats, a Eurodance-meets-Americana oddity that became an undeniable hit across the continent 🪕💃. Hard rock gets a funky twist at #12 with Scottish band Gun and their explosive cover of “Word Up”, taken from their Swagger LP. Holding firm at #11 is Stiltskin with the raw and grungy “Inside”, a track that echoed from Levi’s ads to European playlists.

Kicking off the top 10, “Baby I Love Your Way” by Big Mountain delivers a reggae-fied Peter Frampton classic with a warm, breezy vibe 🌴. The B.C. 52’s hold at #9 with their cheeky Flintstones soundtrack hit. At #8, The Prodigy continue their rave rebellion with “No Good”, a pulsating anthem for dancefloors and headphones alike. Boyz II Men enter at #7 with “I’ll Make Love to You”, an R&B powerhouse that topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 14 weeks and earned them a Grammy 💋🎶.

At #6, The Grid’s banjo-driven techno monster “Swamp Thing” climbs higher, still riding a wave of pan-European success after hitting #2 in Finland and Norway. One spot above, prepare to shout “Eins, Zwei, Polizei!” as Mo-Do lands at #5 with his German-Italian dance banger, channeling Falco and Trio into a Euro hit 🔊🇩🇪. Warren G & Nate Dogg climb to #4 with “Regulate”, the West Coast rap classic that became an MTV staple and made G-Funk a global sound.

As we approach the podium, the soulful message of “7 Seconds” by Youssou N’Dour & Neneh Cherry remains as powerful as ever at #3, blending cultures, languages, and generations 🌍🕊️. At #2, Wet Wet Wet’s heartfelt rendition of “Love Is All Around” refuses to let go of the top, continuing its chart dominance since the summer. But this month, there’s a new number one…

🏆 All-4-One take the crown with “I Swear”, a sweeping ballad that dethroned the competition and became the ultimate love anthem of 1994. With its silky harmonies and romantic charm, it’s no surprise this track soared to the top 💖.
