Bruno Mars will be performing during the Super Bowl 50 halftime show!
The “Young Girls” singer confirmed he would be joining Beyoncé and Coldplay on Sunday via Instagram, posting a photo of himself in the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. “It ain’t a party if Mr $how Up & $how out doesn’t show up,” he wrote. “#Confirmed #SB50 #Halftime #Coldplay #Beyonce #TheBrunz #Shwaaaggg”
Bruno headlined the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey back in 2014. His performance was later nominated for a primetime Emmy award for Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program.
So what can we expect from this year’s halftime show? Bruno and Queen Bey, of course, and perhaps a bit of British influence from Coldplay, perhaps! As Chris Martin explained during a press conference Thursday, the band was inspired by a beloved music festival that takes place across the pond.
“One of our favorite places to play in the world is a place called Glastonbury festival, which is a big music festival that happens in England,” he said. “It’s full of color and pageantry, and it’s an amazing sort of spiritual home of music in England.”
“We wanted to bring that sort of vibe to the Super Bowl halftime show,” he went on. “We can’t compete with amazing dance routines and all of that. We have to try to do what comes naturally to us, which is to try and provide a bit of fun and a great atmosphere for people to come and be together and be communal and enjoy the general experience.”
And how did Chris get Beyoncé to join Coldplay for the show? “I said ‘Hey Queen Bey! I want you in a red bodysuit!’ ” He joked, before adding, “Because it’s Super Bowl 50!”
We’re looking forward to seeing Coldplay, Bey and Bruno on Sunday!
The 2016 Super Bowl will air this Sunday on CBS at 3:30 p.m. PST.
