Japan Airplay Top 100 – Week 23, 2025

Soundwaves in Bloom
By José Araujo
The airwaves this week feel like a garden in full bloom — new voices, timeless icons, and unexpected pairings all coexisting in harmonic chaos. And as always, the most revealing stories don’t just sit at the top. They unfold gradually, track by track, heartbeat by heartbeat. Let’s begin at #100 and climb our way toward the crown.
At the base of the chart, soft entries bloom like hidden petals. French jazz-pop chanteuse Gabi Hartmann makes a graceful debut with “Love High”, featuring the elegant touch of Laurent Bardainne. Beside her, the warm grit of Myles Smith’s “Gold” (#99) offers a folk-pop moment of quiet triumph. Newcomer Mei Semones floats in with the dreamy “I Can Do What I Want”, while rising R&B talent Coco Jones enters at #96 with “You” — silky and sincere.
We’re also gifted bold collaborations: Rosé & Bruno Mars sparkle unexpectedly on “APT.” at #90, and INI drops the contagious “Potion.” Indie favorites LE SSERAFIM, JVKE & Tori Kelly, and SG Lewis maintain strong crossover presence. These lower-tier tracks are not shy—they’re slow burns with staying power, hidden gems waiting for recognition.
Between #70 and #50, the chart begins to heat up. Suchmos returns triumphantly with “Whole Of Flower”, debuting at an impressive #6. Their unique blend of soul, jazz-rock, and understated cool is a welcomed contrast to the pop-heavy trends above. At #70, YEULE’s “DUDU” bursts in with raw avant-pop intensity. J-pop stays diverse: Vaundy drops “まじで、サヨナラべぃべぃ” (#35), balancing melancholy and groove, while 大森元貴 paints cinematic soundscapes in “絵画.” New entries from iri, Eve, and Omoinotake continue to prove the strength of Japan’s introspective, genre-blending underground.
Meanwhile, at #52, SEVENTEEN electrify with “THUNDER”, echoing their usual explosive choreography in audio form. Just above, HAIM‘s “Take Me Back” (#53) and Doechii’s “Anxiety” show that emotional vulnerability remains a chartable force.
From #40 to #20, the mood intensifies. YOASOBI rises to #5 with “Watch me!”, a pulse-racing anthem bursting with narrative adrenaline. ヨルシカ continues to soar with “火星人” (#9), blending the ethereal with the existential. XG’s “MILLION PLACES” (#12) proves that their polished, high-octane pop is here to stay. Meanwhile, “SHYBOY” by the playful Baby Canta (#18) and Avicii feat. Elle King’s nostalgic “Let’s Ride Away” (#16) help this range feel adventurous and nostalgic at once.
Our final steps into the Top 10 bring a collision of heart, craft, and charisma. Hikaru Utada holds at #10 with “Mine Or Yours” — elegant and soul-bearing, a modern classic in the making. MISIA rises again to #7 with “LOVE NEVER DIES”, her voice still as commanding as ever. STUTS feat. Kohjiya & Hana Hope anchor the #8 spot with “99 Steps”, an intricate track full of rhythmic daring and emotional nuance.
But the Top 3 this week is where things truly shift. At #3, last week’s champion 星野源 (Gen Hoshino) gracefully gives way with “Star”, his timeless tune now joined further down the list by two other entries — including a delicate new collaboration with UMI and Camilo, and another with Korean rapper Lee Young Ji. It’s been a glorious run, and Gen continues to feel omnipresent — not by force, but by pure resonance.
At #2, a meteoric jump takes BE:FIRST to new heights with “夢中” — euphoric, youthful, and sonically crisp. It’s a pure radio hit, yes, but one that knows how to tug at heartstrings while still making you move.
And at the very top, the new champion: Maroon 5 feat. Lisa with “Priceless”. After five weeks climbing steadily, it lands at #1 with confidence and fire. A sleek production, a magnetic hook, and the kind of cross-cultural collaboration that feels as natural as it is exciting — this track earns its crown not through volume, but chemistry.
As the week draws to a close, one can’t help but admire the balance in this chart. International icons sit side by side with emerging Japanese talents. Retro sounds mingle with future-forward production. And through it all, one thing is clear: the Japanese radio listener remains adventurous, thoughtful, and deeply attuned to emotional storytelling.
