History

The origins of Universal Music Group can be traced back to the early twentieth century through Universal Pictures‘ music operations and, more significantly, MCA Inc., one of the largest entertainment companies in the United States. During the second half of the twentieth century, MCA expanded its music business through acquisitions and strategic partnerships.

In 1996, the company adopted the Universal Music Group name following the acquisition of MCA by Seagram. Since then, Universal Music has continued to grow through mergers, acquisitions and the expansion of its international operations, becoming the largest recorded music company in the world.

Today, Universal Music Group operates as an independent publicly traded company with a global presence spanning dozens of countries.
