🎧 February 1998 – New Music, Big Emotions & Global Grooves! 🌍💫
A new month means new tunes, bold entries, and beloved favorites climbing their way to the top. February 1998 gave us romance, rebellion, elegance, and raw energy across every corner of the music world. From Europe to the U.S., from club floors to acoustic cafés, this chart is a journey — and we’re starting at #50 so we can save the best for last… 😏
Let’s talk pop royalty and international icons first. The unstoppable Backstreet Boys surprised fans with All I Have To Give, a smooth, sincere ballad joining As Long As You Love Me still going strong near the top. The Spice Girls proved their momentum was far from over, with Too Much climbing fast, while Spice Up Your Life still brought that signature girl power sparkle 💃. New on the block, the UK’s All Saints made waves with the sultry Never Ever, and the ever-charismatic 🇮🇹 Eros Ramazzotti teamed up with the legendary 🇺🇸 Tina Turner on Cose Della Vita — a power duet full of soul and fire.
From rock and alternative lands, there were comebacks and surprises. Legends The Rolling Stones gave us Saint Of Me, and Given To Fly by Pearl Jam soared in with powerful guitar-driven storytelling 🎸. UK alt-rockers Oasis were double-charted with the anthemic All Around the World and Stand By Me, while newcomers Chumbawamba added a second track to their run with Amnesia following their smash hit Tubthumping. Meanwhile, Open Road by the tender-voiced Gary Barlow kept fans hooked.
Dance floors stayed hot this month too 🔥. Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It saw the always-fresh Will Smith light things up with pure charisma. It’s Like That, a remix battle between Run DMC and Jason Nevins, brought old-school cool back into the spotlight. And if that wasn’t enough for your playlist, the dreamy grooves of Fantasy Island by M People, High by the graceful Lighthouse Family, and the pulsing Freedom by Robert Miles featuring Kathy Sledge gave us plenty of reasons to move.
The queens of emotion made their mark in a major way this month. I Do by Lisa Loeb stayed strong with its catchy charm. Butterfly fluttered softly from Mariah Carey, and Frozen gave us a haunting, icy masterpiece from 🧊 Madonna, a song that would go on to become one of her most iconic reinventions ever. Meanwhile, My Heart Will Go On by 💖 Celine Dion debuted — and with Titanic still ruling cinemas, this ballad was already set to become the anthem of the year.
In R&B and soul, the tenderness kept flowing. The elegant Boyz II Men reminded us what true vocal harmony sounds like on A Song For Mama, while Usher continued his romantic streak with You Make Me Wanna…. Over in the UK, Angels by ✨ Robbie Williams kept climbing, a ballad that soared on emotion and vocal strength.
Let’s not forget the feel-good hits and wild cards: Are You Jimmy Ray? was still turning heads, Sunchyme by Dario G lifted spirits with its tropical energy, and Doctor Jones gave Aqua another chart success after their Barbie takeover. Meanwhile, the incredible collab Perfect Day by various UK stars still lingered in our ears — a song as meaningful as it was melodic.
And now… the final stretch.
At #3 this month is Back To You by the ever-sincere Bryan Adams, bringing heartfelt lyrics and timeless vocals. Just above, Together Again by the one-and-only 💫 Janet Jackson stood tall, a celebration of love, loss, and reconnection that resonated deeply with listeners around the world.
But who takes the #1 spot this month?
🔥 Climbing from #32 all the way to the top, it’s the magnetic, emotional and unforgettable Natalie Imbruglia with Torn! With its raw vulnerability and iconic delivery, Natalie captured hearts across the globe — and sealed her place in pop history.
